Blue Ridge Parkway Waterfalls

On a recent road trip, hubby and I spend two nights in Boone, North Carolina. The town of Boone has easy access to the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway.  We planned on visiting and hiking to as many waterfalls we could fit into our visit. I am sharing photos of the Upper and Lower Linville Falls and photos of the Crabtree Falls.

The trail to Crabtree is described as moderate, parts were difficult walking a rocky trail.

This is from the overlook called Chimney View  of the Lower and Upper Linville Falls. If you look closely you can see the people at the Upper Falls.

From Erwin’s view overlook we could see the river below the falls.

Roadtrip…Blue Ridge Parkway

We recently returned from a road trip to North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Parkway. A scenic 460 mile drive through Virginia and North Carolina.  We spent one night in Staunton Virginia, 2 nights in Boone North Carolina and 3 nights in Asheville North Carolina.

The following images are photos from the first day in Virginia and on the Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park.   During our 6 days, we hiked to various waterfalls, rocky trails and saw beautiful scenic views.

Happy Thankful Thursday & Happy Halloween!

Lately the weather has been nice and we’ve been able to take more walks on the local fire roads again to see the fall colors, look for birds, mushrooms and anything nature related. These photos are from a few different days and walks.

Oct 26-28 we are seeing blooms in our yard like the yellow zinnias and some clematis blooms.

A pretty cloud and cloud day. During this walks, I could hear the WT Sparrows, the Kinglets, various woodpeckers, cardinals and the vultures were flying high in the sky. No  birds would allow photos at this time.  

A Common Buckeye butterfly landed on the trail in front of us, Oct 27th.

These Clematis blooms suddenly appeared Oct 26 and are still blooming today.

There are some ferns seen along the fire road that stay green year round.

I am using my old WordPress blog for this post. It seems like blogger wants to give me problems ever since I removed Chrome from my computer.  I am going back and forth from Firefox and Edge.

I am thankful to have these great weather days for our walks.

I am thankful to be seeing these pretty flowers blooming in our yard in late October.

Maryland/Delaware Eastern Shore

These images and post on our getaway to Maryland Eastern Shore and Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware.  We enjoyed a crab feast while on a river boat cruise, pretty views of the Choptank River near Cambridge Maryland.  We visited both the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge Md and the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware.

We saw lots of birds at both the  Blackwater NWR and Bombay Hook NWR . We had a great overnight trip to the Eastern Shore and enjoyed the river boat ride and crab feast.

Finger Lakes, New York

Most recent getaway to Ocean City Md

Ocean City, Maryland is one of our favorite places for a quick overnight trip or getaway.

Feb 4-6th, we enjoyed walking on the beaches, bird watching and a quick visit to Assateague Island National Seashore.  Here are some photos from our trip.

Macaque Monkeys

I have not posted on this blog for sometime. I thought I would give it another try.

Hubby and I have been enjoying the Florida weather since the middle of October and we are now getting ready to head back home to Maryland. I have enjoyed birding in Florida, the birds here seem to be used to people and stay close. I try not to harass any wildlife for a photo and keep my distance. My Canon SX 40 has great zoom and I do not have to be too close to birds or any wildlife.

I am sharing some photos of the Macaque Monkeys we saw while visiting the Silver Spring State Park in Ocala Florida. They are wild monkeys and are not tame. We read warning signs to keep our distance. These monkey can bite and scratch, it is best to keep your distance.

 

These Macaque Monkeys were brought to Silver Spring Park in the 1930’s by Colonel Tooey a boat captain in the park. He thought the monkeys would be a neat attraction on the island in the park. Eight decades later the monkey population has increased. It seems the monkeys numbers are increasing in the park and in other areas around Ocala. The park offers a glass bottom boat ride and rentals of kayaks and canoes. The monkeys are part of the tourist attraction to this state park. My hubby and I walked the boardwalk taking some photos of the monkeys, that is until a few looked like they wanted to get too close to us. We preferred staying safe and decided to leave the boardwalk.

Springtime in my yard

I have a few shots of the flowers and plants around my yard. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. The flowers are so colorful and pretty.

It is a little too soon for planting annuals in my zone. We must make sure the last chance of frost is really over. I am looking forward to seeing some more plants and flowers around my yard and in pots on my deck.

Ricketts Glen & Wilke Barre, Pa

These are some shots from our visit to Wilkes Barre, Pa and our hike at the Ricketts Glen State Park.

The hike at Ricketts Glen is a strenuous hike, very steep with awkward uneven steps. But, seeing 20 or more waterfalls during one hike was well worth the pain.

The next couple of shots were from the city of Wilkes Barre, Pa. We spent the night since it was over a three hour drive from home. We were both tired from the morning drive and then the hike. Happy to do a nice dinner and then back to the room for some shut eye.

There was a hike-bike trail next to the canal or river in Wilkes Barre. It was a nice getaway for our long Easter holiday weekend.

We took a little walk in one of the city parks.

The park had some beautiful blossoming trees. They look like crap apple blossoms to me.
